In 2020, we celebrate our 85th anniversary. Founded in 1935, the success of the company over the years is grounded in the purpose that originally started the company. Dick Watson wanted to bring electricity to eastern North Carolina during the depression. It was an opportunity to bring good to the community while times were bad. He was ahead of the curve. Dick Watson was interested in ‘what’s next?’.
Watson Electrical looks for ‘what’s next?’ to bring opportunities to do good for our employees, customers, and communities. The founding purpose has fueled the company to grow and expand. From our first location in Wilson, NC, to the North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia areas we now cover, we are devoted to our employees, customers, and our communities.
Over the years, we have many examples of ‘what’s next?’ Watson started its apprenticeship program in the 1950s. We started using computers in the 1980s, programming our own accounting system and estimating system with labor factors. We developed a productivity system in the 1970s leading to advanced job cost accounting. Watson worked with East Carolina University to develop a Construction Management Training program in the 1990s. We began Prefab in the early 2000s. We started doing solar work in the early 2010s. Our newest venture is Watson University. Finding ‘What’s Next?’ insures we will perpetually do good for our employees, customers, and communities.
